Capture Plugins
Capture plugins provide video frames to CV Python, CV C++, displays, dataset capture, and other video tools. Run one capture plugin for a normal workflow.
| Plugin | Best fit |
|---|---|
| DS Capture | Broad DirectShow capture-card support |
| KS Capture | Low-latency Kernel Streaming devices |
| MF Capture | Windows Media Foundation capture |
| Magewell Capture | Supported Magewell Pro hardware |
| OpenCV Capture | OpenCV-compatible cameras and capture devices |
| Dataset Playback | Saved images and video frames for repeatable CV tests |
| OBS Capture | Frames supplied by the Helios OBS filter |
Choose the plugin that sees the desired source reliably at the required resolution and frame rate.
Color and HDR
Helios handles capture color automatically; there is no extra color-range selector in its capture panels. For predictable computer-vision results, start with an SDR source. Capture-device settings and driver metadata affect the result.
If colors are washed out, too dark, or inconsistent, check the source and capture deviceโs HDR and color-range settings, then stop and restart capture. DS, MF, KS, and OpenCV capture do not provide general HDR tone mapping. Magewell HDR conversion depends on the cardโs own processing. OBS Capture can use OBSโs color management, but its result still depends on the source and OBS settings.
Recheck color thresholds and reference images after changing capture settings.
